Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney returned home today to be met by his family, loved ones and mates from Brisbane based 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment in a solemn and dignified ceremony at RAAF Base Amberley.

A Memorial Service was held at the Australian Support Base, UAE for Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney. He was deployed on operations in the Middle East Area of Operations as a member of the First Mentoring Task Force, LCPL MacKinney was killed in action on Tuesday 24th of August 2010.

Senior Scientist Imaging Electro-Optic Systems Merrilyn Fiebig, who works within Imagery Systems Branch, Intelligence, Surveillance and reconnaissance division, Defence Science Technology Organisation (DSTO). Merrilyn is working with Flight Lieutenant (FLTLT) Glenn Murray. FLTLT Murray works for 92 Wing Operational Test and Evaluation.Merrilyn Fiebig and FLTLT Glenn Murray work together to improve the functionality of the Star Safire HD on the AP-3C Orion.

Ramp Ceremony held at Royal Australian Air Force Base Pearce, WA, for Trooper Jason Brown
Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) Trooper Jason Brown, who was Killed In Action in Afghanistan on 14 August, was repatriated in a sombre Ramp Ceremony at RAAF Base Pearce, Western Australia on 18 August.

HMAS Melbourne departs for the Middle East

Family and friends gathered at Garden Island to farewell their loved ones departing on HMAS MELBOURNE to the Middle East Area of Operation. The ship will deploy for six months as a part of Operation Slipper, the Australian Defence Force contribution to the international campaign against terrorism, counter piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden and maritime security.

TROOPER JASON THOMAS BROWN

29 year old, Trooper Jason Thomas Brown from the Perth-based Special Air Service Regiment died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained in the engagement.

Trooper Brown leaves behind his parents and one sister who are currently receiving support from Defence.

Trooper Brown was born in Sydney, NSW in 1981. He joined the Army on 13th June 2000 and following Recruit and Initial Employment Training, Trooper Brown was posted to the 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment. In 2004 he joined the 4th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (Commando). On successful completion of the 2007 Selection Course, Trooper Brown became a member of the Special Air Service Regiment. This was his first tour to Afghanistan, although he had deployed previously on three occasions to East Timor.

Mentoring Team Delta (MT-D), part of the 1st Mentoring Task Force (MTF-1), began operations in the Deh Rawood area, west of Tarin Kowt in early July 2010.Operations in the Deh Rawood Valley Region became part of MTF-1 responsibilities that synchronised with the drawdown of Dutch forces in Uruzgan Province.
