PRESIDENTS REPORT 2012

I would like to start my column by saying that I hope you and your families all had a very Merry Christmas and an excellent start to the New Year 2012.

During the next three (3) months there are three events to undertake;  the first being the commemoration of the Fall of Singapore on Wednesday the 15 February 2012 at 1600hrs in Goffet Park, Toronto; 2nd a Bunnings Fundraising BBQ at the Glendale Store to raise money for restoration work that relates to the upgrading of  our Toronto WW1 Memorial.  This BBQ is to take place on 25  February 2012 commencing at 0800hrs.

Volunteers for the BBQ are being called for.  So, if you can spend a  couple of hours or so, please contact myself or Secretary Paul Kelly and have your name placed on a roster.

Thirdly, a Charity Golf Day is being organised to also raise funds for the      Toronto WW1 Memorial.  So again, Volunteers will be called for to assist on the day.  The date, time and place for the event is Sunday the 4 March 2012 at 0800hrs hit off, Toronto Workers County Club.  It is to be a two (2) ball Ambrose event, shot gun start.  (so be there about 0700hrs to 0730hrs)  Get your diaries out and record the dates etc.  Bookings to be made through  the Golf Pro Shop at the course.  If you require a buggy for the day, book that also with the Golf Pro Shop.

As of Tuesday 13 December 2011 the DA for our development of four (4) Units on our property in Thorne Street, Toronto was approved by Lake       Macquarie City Council.  Further to that, matters are now being addressed so that construction can commence early next year (2012) with a twenty six (26) week turn around.

There has been a lot of work put into securing the approval of the DA and on behalf of the members I would like to publicly thank Member and Trustee Ron Savage for his diligence and efforts in getting it past.

Hopefully with no further hic-cups the units will be completed and sold so that  we the Executive and Committee will be able to implement our long awaited Social Program in the later part of 2012 along with other outstanding matters.

On Tuesday 6 December 2011, 40 seniors/members wives/partners and friends attended the NSW State Premier’s Christmas Seniors concert at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney.  A good time was had by all.  Following the concert, China Town made an excellent choice for lunch prior to the leisurely  train ride back to Toronto.

I have already applied for 40 tickets for the Seniors week Premier’s concert to be held on Tuesday 20 March 2012.  I should know if we have been successful in our application in late January or early February 2012.  If successful, tickets will be offered to members at the February (I hope) Meeting and again at the March Meeting if not all snapped up in February.

That’s about all for this issue, so until next time, if I am re-elected at the AGM in February, 2012, stay happy and healthy.
